Working with Offenders Community
A community based around Advisors working in the criminal justice arena, either in Youth Offending Teams, National Probation Service or within the Prison Service.
There is some very significant and excellent practice being delivered and I am keen to learn new skills to work with a very challenging group but at the same time share some of the skills that I have found successful in particular working within a multi agency team such as YOT.
I have worked within Exeter Youth Offending Team now for some six years and prior to this worked for a specialist further education college with many of our students coming from London and the Home Counties and placed with us on a residential basis, and either on the edge of the criminal justice system or starting their journey through the courts.
Last year I set up a regional forum of Connexions Advisors working within Young Offending Teams in the South West of England. This was a wonderful experience to have some time to meet and talk about failures but more importantly successes and practice generally. I was amazed by the shear level of knowledge, experience and skill that was in one room and I was able to draw upon and I hope that starting a criminal justice community will only develop the work and practice of advisors generally.
