Using Social Media for Careers Guidance in ScotlandThursday 15th March 2012 We all know about social media, don't we? Most of us use it in one way or another. But what about in our work? Twitter? LinkedIn? Facebook? Google Plus? What do we use them for? Are we making the best use for ourselves and our clients? This one-day hands-on event will explore the impact that the Internet has had on information and communication and the implications for our work. After some initial jargon busting we will look at active and passive use of a range of tools and consider the implications of video technology and the smartphone / tablet / console markets together with current trends.
Speaker Biographies Leigh Henderson has extensive experience of delivering and managing career guidance to young people, adults and older people. The common theme of his career, including more recent work on quality assurance, research and project evaluation across Europe, has been to seek the creation of demand led services rather than the episodic, interventionist and supply led models that currently exist. Leigh was the co-author, with David Dickinson and Luk Vervenne of Unlike Minds, of a briefing paper for David Willetts MP in 2009, on 'Information Systems to Support All-Age Continuing Personal Development'. He is Chair of the ICG Research Committee, a Fellow and Director of the National Institute for Career Education and Counselling and an Associate of Careers England and Unlike Minds.
