Register of Career Guidance Practitioners

The Register is a regulatory mechanism and a public record of members of the Institute of Career Guidance. The Register is a means for driving up the quality of practice by ensuring that registered career guidance practitioners are:

Register of Guidance Practitioners

  • appropriately qualified in their role
  • committed to continuous professional development
  • subscribe to the Institute's Code of Ethics.

Eligibility and criteria for entry

All practising members of the Institute are entitled to apply for entry to the Register, which is renewable on an annual basis. Successful entry is only accorded to current practitioners who achieve a defined level of qualification and demonstrate an ongoing commitment to CPD and subscribe to the ICG Code of Ethics. A list of approved qualifications in advice and guidance is provided in Appendix 1. Members offering qualifications not appearing on the list will have their applications considered by the Institute's Professional Development Committee to determine appropriateness.

Details of the expected standards and criteria for defining ' currently practising' and 'commitment to CPD' are also included in Appendix 1.
