She is a Schools Careers Adviser based with Careers Scotland. Following innovative work by Claire, Careers Scotland are allocated additional time at the school. Eric Foy, Team Leader at Careers Scotland, who nominated Claire for the award, said 'There has been a significant influence from Claire to increase the Careers Scotland portfolio, but also the input has made a very positive influence on the school, partner agencies, within the school and most importantly the pupils within the school. Another of her colleague's supports Claire's nomination saying 'Claire is a very pleasant and approachable person and is always very professional.'
As an established and influential part of the school community she has worked with many groups to drive forward policy change. Claire's capability, innovative approach, flexible attitude and high standard has allowed her to work with numerous partner organisations including employers, educational psychologists, senior community workers, and the police. To highlight the achievements Claire has made, the number of school leavers faced with unemployment was 21% when she took on the role, and it is now down to 6%. On a personal level Claire is said to have excellent communication, organisational and planning skills. She is able to relate well with the pupils and helps to develop their career aspirations, making a real difference to their lives. Overall she has boosted the school's careers education programme and delivered effective career guidance to many pupils. |
