These and other questions will be considered at a day conference in Newcastle

Designed for careers advisers, personal advisers and 6th form & FE tutors. Presented in association with The Institute of Career Guidance, the day will give you a rounded appreciation of the issues involved, and will include the opportunity to enhance your one-to-one skills in working with students applying for HE. You'll also benefit from the latest information on employment prospects for graduates.

The conference will include four main sessions:

  • What do admissions tutors look for in Personal statements?

14-19 curriculum reform and UCAS: UCAS Wider Picture team

  • UCAS Entry Profiles
  • UCAS updates - feedback for unsuccessful applicants
  • What's new for 2009?

1:1 techniques for advising HE applicants: Andy Gardner

  • Practical strategies for new advisers and new ideas for experienced advisers
  • Focusing students' choices - making best use of information sources
  • Dealing with concerns about finance

Employability/ LMI for graduates: Dr Trish Lunt, Liverpool University

  • Answering potential HE students' questions about HE progression
  • What do employers look for?
  • How can HE students best prepare themselves for the Labour market?

Lorraine McConway will introduce the day, and draw it all together at the end.

The day runs from registration and coffee at 9.30am to its conclusion at 3.45pm. Refreshments and lunch are included. The full programme including speakers information will be available shortly.

The venue is the Thistle Newcastle Hotel, Neville Street, Newcastle Upon Tyne, NE1 5DF. The hotel is centrally located with easy access to public transport and the A167. Full directions will be sent following confirmation of your booking.
