There are a number of vacancies on the Institute's Research Committee. In particular the Committee is seeking members from both Northern Ireland and Wales.

The ICG is working with the Engineering Technology Board (ETB) and other partners on a DfES funded strategy to engaging engineering businesses in: "Improving the quality and quantity of work experience opportunities and also increasing the number and awareness of apprenticeships."

In England the DfES have withdrawn their support from the Progress File. The DfES website says that 'PF materials are no longer available as the principles and processes which underpin PF are now well established and have been adopted in a range of other products and services.

Careers Scotland is strengthening the support it gives to young people in a bid to improve employment rates among Scotland's teenagers. From 1 April 2006 it is increasing its activities to reduce and prevent the number of 16 to 19 year olds who are not in education, employment or training (sometimes known as the NEET group).

Youngsters across Scotland are to have access to state-of-the art virtual work experience at the touch of a button, thanks to a new internet-based 3D simulation.
