The QCG and QCGD (Scotland) are awarded by the Institute of Career Guidance.
The QCG is available at 11 universities across the UK, and the QCGD at 2 universities in Scotland. They are available as a one-year full time or two year part time course and combine academic study with work based learning which allows you to put into practice what you have learned at university. Distance learning options are available in some cases.
Generally, you will need to demonstrate that you can cope with postgraduate level study but you need not necessarily have a first degree. For more details on entry requirements, please contact the individual course centres.
On successful completion of the course, you will be equipped to find employment as a guidance practitioner in the statutory services (the careers service in England, Careers Wales, Skills Development Scotland, and the Northern Ireland Careers Service). There are also opportunities in FE/HE careers advisory services, Information, Advice and Guidance services for adults in England, the voluntary sector and a growing private sector.
