Hello. My College is considering the introduction of a new, level 2 qualification in Maths. This AQA course was named as a GCSE in the "Use of Maths" in a recent pilot study, but I understand it is to change (in name only) to the Higher Certificate in the Use of Maths, from September 2011. The depth and range of topics will remain the same giving it complete parity with a GCSE in all but name. I understand that it focuses less upon algebra, and more on day-to-day use of maths (money management etc). My query is this - do any members have experience of their students taking this qualification? How did they find it? What did teachers think of it as a qualification to teach and how it has been received by employers, universities etc? Thank you.

I am currently looking at developing a grading scale for observation of our guidance officers. We have undertaken obsevations for the last few years but they have been ungraded. Has anyone got any info on grading of IAG observations or would be happy to share their own grading scales. Please feel free to contact me via email harveyc@wacc.ac.uk Many thanks

With the 'cold winds' of economic 'reality' biting at the heels of local government is there actually going to be a future for a discrete Careers Adviser role working in English secondary schools in the near future? (Or have we been drinking in the 'last chance saloon' these past 10 years and not actually proved the value of what we do to anyone?
