Introduction |
| What a fantastic development - a Private Practitioners Forum, great news! I've been banging on for years that the ICG need to cater more for the privateer and tailor some of the language to the needs of the independent sector and work with adults. My particular passion with the ICG hinges about our professional status over greater inclusivity. I'm all for inclusivity, I'm just worried that it comes at a great cost. Am I a professional or a technician?! |

Re: Introduction |
Hi there I've had a mixture of employed and freelance work for the last 11 years. My freelance work at present includes CV consulatation and preparation for individual clients in my own home - for which I have a website; www.iccguidance.co.uk - and IAG for a local training company which is also a Next Step sub contractor. I am a part time employee both of an FE college (providing guidance to adult ESOL students)and the Next Step lead provider for Beds and Luton. My freelance work is the smallest part of my income and I would love to discuss ways of increasing this work without expensive advertising! |

Re: Re: Introduction |
| Happy to discuss advertising, Pat. Although, in all truth, my experience is more by process of elimination. Today I got rid of Yellow Pages as in two years I have had fewer than four leads generated out of a many hundreds of pounds invested! I am just about to update and amend my website as I believe this to be the best way forward. I attended a great talk this week at the local Enterprise Hub for self-employed on 'How to create a sustainable e-business'. It had some fantastic tips and seemed to make the whole process of web-marketing a lot more viable. |

Advertising methods |
I find Yellow Pages an effective part of my marketing strategy for local clients. I did use large colour ads to begin with, now I'm using a box ad in black and white. I do easily make my money back from these, but get most of my business via referrals followed by my web site. But it was a slow process, my career business only became the mahjority of my business 3 or so years ago - and that was when I let go of some consultancy assignments so I could fous more on my own business.
Good luck!
