Current Question Adult Learning Options (ALO)
At the college where I work in Bolton we introduced Adult Learning Options (ALO) in conjunction with the Jobcentre last year. This allowed adults who have been unemployed for at least 6 months to start a Level 2 full time course with extra benefits. The hours can be more than Jobseekers are restricted to. Their tuition fees are paid and they can also claim any childcare and travel costs.

This has enabled many people to start new careers. However some courses, for example Construction start at Level 1, meaning that some courses are not covered by this initiative.

In particular I was speaking with two females who were interested in Painting & Decorating but unable to start the couse as it started at Level 1.

Do you know any examples of this happening in your area? Could you please reply to this question with details.

Thanks,
Ged
