Re: Pyschometric Testing |
| I have just had a discussion with my 2 colleagues who currently administer Morrisby testing to both schools and clients in the labour market/undergoing training. We are the remaining 3 members of staff in my area qualified to use what we feel is a valuable tool. In recent years, we have not explored alternative psychometric tests. When we last did, the outcome was that The Morrisby Profile continued to be our preferred choice and continues to be used in Kent. Hope this is helpful. |

Re: Re: Pyschometric Testing |
| Thanks very much Muriel, I have managed to get on a refresher course @ Morrisby in Sept so will be interested to see how things have changed over the years. The fact that there are only 3 left in your area using Morrisby - does this mean that other alternatives are being used, do you think? Or are clients just not taking up this facility? |

Re: Re: Pyschometric Testing |
| I looked at offering Morrisby in the past and although it is a useful Battery it's certainly worth looking at others, particularly if you want the option of splitting vocational interests from aptitude testing. The main disadvantages of Morrisby for me were: length of time needed to administer (over 3 hours)- not practical unless you are administering to a group; not appropriate for all clients and cost. Have a look at the BPS site designated for testing at www.psychtesting.org.uk for more info-membership allows you to look at test reviews amongst other things. |

| Thanks very much. Both yours and Amin's reply have been very useful. I'm going on a level A refresher next month so will pick lots of brains @ Morrisby! |

Re: Pyschometric Testing |
Hi Dee
My point of view is to use a Careers Test instead of a Psychometric test. If you are happy to consider this option then, the best careers test I have ever come across is that of CareerPlanner.com (a USA based company). I myself have taken the test (when it used to be free for Advisers to use 3 of them as samples for their clients/students). And I was very pleased with the length of the test together with its no nonsense accurate results.
The test applies to people from age 13 to 60+, including students and mid life career changers.
The test is based on the proven RIASEC system developed by Dr. John Holland.
While choosing any Careers Test, it's worth looking at the following points.
A Good Career Test Will ...
* Take less than 20 - 30 minutes to complete * Will be accurate and the results will resonate with you * Will provide a list of specific job titles * Will have an easy to understand test report
Avoid Career Tests That...
* Avoid personality tests when trying to discover your ideal career. Your ideal career is one where you can be passionate about the work, and that has little to do with your personality and everything to do with your interests. * Avoid career tests that force you to choose between two or more activities. "Forced Choice" career tests will invariably give you questions where neither choice is attractive to you. Forcing you to answer such questions will result in a skewing of the data in your test report. * Avoid career tests that force you to answer every single question because there will be questions you either do not understand, or you don't have a clue how to answer. Forcing you to answer every question will create inaccuracies. * Avoid aptitude tests until after you have narrowed your career choices down to 3 to 5 careers. Aptitude tests attempt to tell you what abilities you have and how well you can perform certain tasks.
The details of the above point of views are here: http://www.careerplanner.com/Career-Articles/Career-Test-Review.htm
Pricing: The test costs $ 29.95 for an online test with one hour delivery (via e-mail) or $ 19.95 (Online test with Budget 5 day processing). Plus, they offer a full money back guarantee with no hassle.
Finally, the website is here: http://www.careerplanner.com/Default.cfm
Hope this helps.
regards, Amin Saleem. |

Re: Re: Pyschometric Testing |
| Thanks very much for your comprehensive reply Amin. I think it would be useful to have a couple of Psychometric / Careers tests under my belt. I'm wondering about your suggestion of CareerPlanner and whether it translates well into the British psyche i.e. language/our eduction system etc. |
