Guidance for Learning and Work Foundation Degree
The Guidance for Learning and Work Foundation Degree offered by Newman University College, Birmingham aims to facilitate the professional development of staff who may offer advice or guidance in a diverse range of occupational and education settings within the public, private and voluntary sectors.
Offered in partnership with Halesowen College, the course can provide a starting point for entry into a new career or provide a means of progression within a current area of work.
People in advice and support roles make a significant contribution to the life opportunities of the people they work with. Through understanding their aspirations, abilities and expectations, students will develop their capacity to provide supportive professional advice to assist them in their learning, career planning and development.
Planned to start in September 2009, the Guidance for Learning and Work Foundation Degree is a part-time, work-based course designed to enhance existing skills and improve career prospects. The focus is combining work with study and making useful connections between the two. It will also provide a stepping stone for those who wish to embark upon further study in higher education.
Following successful completion of this course, students will also be well prepared for a career in a variety of guidance roles or progress further onto the Postgraduate Qualification in Careers Guidance. In addition, NVQ 4 in IAG and LDSS criteria and qualifications are embedded options in the course.
In addition to the part-time course the Guidance for Learning and Work Foundation Degree is also offered on full-time basis over 2 years.
