From September 2007 a new professional postgraduate training course in career guidance will be offered at 3 universities in Scotland. The new qualification replaces the QCG and will offer enhanced breadth and depth of study within a 2 year programme.
Key features of the qualification will include
- Modular provision
- Flexible delivery through blended/ e-learning with appropriate student support
- Opportunities for existing practitioners to access discrete modules for CPD purposes
- Cross cutting themes - ethics, reflective practice, research activities
- Progressive skill development opportunities over the two years
- Enhanced integration of academic input and experience in the field with an emphasis on practice based learning
- E - portfolio, Learning Diary and individualised learning plans
- Different exit points (Postgraduate Certificate, Postgraduate Diploma, MSc)
The two year course meets the standards and level of a Masters qualification and students entering the profession now have the option of taking a taught Masters qualification that concentrates on professional practice. ICG will accredit the Postgraduate Diploma with the award of a Qualification in Career Guidance and Development (QCGD) that will be equivalent to the QCG.
Structure of the new qualification:
Postgraduate Certificate (4 modules)
This is available as a two year part time option.
Postgraduate Diploma (8 modules)
This is available as a full time option over nine months or on a part time or e-learning basis over two years.
