It is for both experienced practitioners and those wanting to learn more, in schools, sixth form colleges, further education colleges, careers services, Connexions services, universities and associated organisations. The membership of the community is currently as follows:
- Connexions/Careers Service 32%
- FE/Sixth Form College Advisers 22%
- HE Liaison/Careers Services 18%
- Schools Careers/HE Advisers 12%
- Other Associated Organisations 9%
- Advisers working with Adults 4%
- QCG Students 3%
It already produces a newsletter, which helps to share good practice, and is the only collected source of free and charged events for HE Advisers. The community has also started a buddy network to help those new to this work.
Community members state that in the future they want to look at:
- Training - currently no systematic training or benchmarks exist
- Campaigning - members feel there is widespread ignorance of the impact that HE choice has on career paths
- Sharing good practice - how can we improve links between the guidance sectors and how can we use the ICG website to share information
To become a community member simply complete our joining form. Membership is open to all within the ICG who work in or have an interest in career guidance and HE advice:
The current government has a target of 50% of school leavers entering higher education. Whether or not this is achieved, we are already looking at levels of 40% of school leavers entering HE. Therefore there is a huge market out there for the guidance profession relating to HE.
Hundreds, maybe more, of people do this work but we have very little glue to join us together. The ICG HE Advisers Community of Interest is going to provide that glue! |
