Council Vacancies
The Institute is currently looking to fill vacancies for Council Representatives in the following geographical areas;
Greater London South East Yorkshire and Humber Scotland (South and West)
Employees of Careers Scotland are covered by separate arrangements for Council representation - we are particularly looking for nominations from outwith Careers Scotland to fill this particular vacancy.
Role of Council Representatives
Representatives are appointed to the Institute's Council which; agrees the strategic aims and professional direction of the Institute; appoints Standing Committees, Sub-Committees, and Special Committees; varies and repeals Institute Bye-Laws (other than those of the Ethics and Standards Committee): accepts any donations of money or property for and on behalf of the Institute; appoints the Chief Executive, the Honorary Secretary and the Honorary Treasurer and votes on nominations of Fellows and Honorary Fellows.
Council Representatives also work with local and/or sectoral members to:
- Establish a communications network with members, linked to a national communications strategy for ICG
- Plan regional/sectoral activities, with HQ support for funding and delivery
- Contribute local knowledge and specialist expertise to Council
- Identify issues for Council and policy priorities
Council representatives are expected to attend 3 meetings of Council per year usually in February, June and October. Currently, these start mid-morning on Friday and finish on Saturday lunchtime. Travel and accommodation expenses are paid by the Institute.
Criteria for selection of Council Representatives
- nominee must be a Voting Member
- each nomination to be supported by 5 Voting Members
- nominees to indicate on the nomination form their area of interest and specialist expertise
Appointments will take effect immediately following the successful completion of the Election Process and continue for a further 3 years from the Council Meeting following that appointment.
Election process
Nominations are invited from individual Members, or groups of Members, from each Region and/or sectoral area, and submitted on the Application Form available from the Institute's HQ. In the event of more than one nomination being received for a vacancy in a particular Region and/or sectoral area a ballot will be held of Members, overseen by the Honorary Secretary.
- Successful and unsuccessful nominees will be notified by letter from the Honorary Secretary within two weeks of the deadline for nominations or ballot as appropriate.
- All Members will be notified of the names of the successful nominees and the start date of their appointment.
The ICG would particularly welcome applicants from an ethnic minority as they are currently under-represented within the ICG at this level.
