After completing the Dip. CG all those years ago it seems now, I joined the Careers Service in Coventry, which later began to deliver the Connexions core contract. Working as a school personal adviser with the careers guidance remit often made me reminiscent of my guidance interview which left a lot to be desired but has also given me the clear motivation to do the best I can for the young people that I speak to as they faced their gargantuan task of career decision-making. Like many others, I feel this is a vital, pivotal role which necessitates the need for offering good quality advice and career guidance.
I currently work in a further education college with young people aged 16-19 delivering careers guidance and feel stretched every minute according to the wide range of needs and issues that continually darken the doorway! I believe in the holistic approach in working with clients but also that with good quality advice and guidance, the satisfaction factor in enabling and empowering someone on towards truly finding their niche can be huge. |
