I continued to undertake the role of treasurer until around 2000 when the ICG HQ withdrew the individual Branch grant and all financial activity was undertaken centrally. In January 2004 I became the chair and still hold that position at the present moment alongside my role as Careers Scotland's council representative.
I started as a Careers Adviser in Bathgate and later moved to Livingston. During my probationary year I designed a programme for Christmas Leavers and much to my surprise it was accepted. My colleagues and I ran the programme in West Lothian for 3 years so every August we started with 60 pupils from 11 secondary schools. It was independently evaluated and considered to be very innovative, achieved a great deal of respect from employers and teachers and still being run by the local college today. In 2000 I moved to Careers Central in Stirling and worked in partnership with the Local Council's youth agency were we designed and developed a programme for unemployed young people. From this I became the national project manager for Careers Scotland's very successful career planning and employability programme. I now have a very varied portfolio of responsibilities all themed around employability for those furthest from the labour market.
On a personal note, I have a degree in Geology, love gardening a wonderful husband called Bill, we enjoy music and travel. Three children and three grandchildren who are a constant source of enjoyment, hilarity and sleepless babysitting. |
