In the search for unemployment it is the often the young, without work experience, who feel the most isolated. To help counteract the problem, social networking site 'MyA4e Community' is targeting younger job seekers.
The site, which was developed by A4e in Sheffield in conjunction with Jobcentre Plus, reports that 40,000 youngsters have registered with them since its inception at the end of 2009.
A4e founder and Government employment advisor, Emma Harrison, said: "Peer support is vital to staying motivated, boosting self-esteem and creating a sense of belonging, something that young and unemployed people don't tend to have.
"Many youngsters routinely use social media, so we are delivering these support services in a medium they are familiar with. We are also encouraging them to set up their own work clubs."
Through myA4e.com, job seekers can read live listings of new jobs, details of training and personal development courses, and interact with fellow job seekers.
Chancellor Alistair Darling has extended his guarantee of a job or training to 18 to 24-year-olds who have been out of work for six months until March 2012.
A4e administers the Government's Flexible New Deal (FND) programme in five areas of Great Britain. |
