Oxford and Cambridge universities have agreed to recognise the engineering Diploma, one of the five new diplomas, as an acceptable entry qualification for their engineering degrees. From 2010 candidates with a level 3 Diploma in mathematics for engineering and A-level physics will be eligible for consideration. The director of admissions for Cambridge, Geoff Parks, commented that the engineering diploma "may prove to be a better preparation" than the typical A-levels taken by those applying for engineering. Mike Nicholson, head of undergraduate admissions at Oxford, said: "We recognise there are students who from an early age have identified they want to work in engineering and this provides a route for those who opt to study the advanced diploma in engineering to apply to study engineering at Oxford." However Oxford and Cambridge also remarked that the other four Diplomas were unlikely to be suitable for any of their degrees. Read more here. |
