Futuretrack is a major study that is tracking the 2006 cohort of UCAS applicants and following them until 2012. This first report looks at the results of the 130,000 students who replied to the first questionnaire.
Stage 1 explores the attitudes, beliefs and background of the applicants, including: the reasons for HE and course choice; the issue of finance; experience with UCAS application; career planning; skills perception; the views about HE policy and the value of HE in general.
The results of this and future stages of Futuretrack are important to anyone working with students progressing to HE and will inform research-based practice of careers services. The full report can be downloaded from the HECSU website at: http://www.hecsu.ac.uk/hecsu.rd/research_reports_236.htm
Further materials are being developed based on the outcomes of the study for use by careers advisers working in schools and sixth form colleges and these will be made available to all HECSU member colleges as well.
