President Kieran Gordon , Vice-President Richard Longson and Immediate Past President Rachel Mulvey met with John Seymour at the Moorfoot Head Office in Sheffield at the end of June.
John is responsible for policy on careers advice for adults within the new Department for Innovation, Universities and Skills (DIUS) - formerly the DfES.
ICG Report on the meeting:
A key focus of the meeting was information exchange: to bring each other up to speed on our current positions. We also wanted to lay firm foundations on which to build further collaboration on issues relating to career guidance. Some of John's colleagues joined us; from the Supporting Children and Young People Group and from the Young People's IAG Team - now part of the new Department for Children, Schools and Families). This meant that our discussions benefited from a perspective across the age groups, from young people to adult.
Discussion points included:
- post Leitch implementation
- labour market information and intelligence in client work
- workforce development, including continued professional development and professional governance
- quality standards and impact on careers education and guidance provision
It was a positive and productive meeting, which left all round the table keen to continue working together. |
