I (Mario Kyriacou) attended the BSA conference in Telford to represent the Institute as ICG member Colin Marsh requested our input. As the link Council Representative for the BSA, I was asked if I could attend.
The conference started officially on Saturday (but people arrived the night before) and scheduled to finish Sunday late afternoon. It was well attended by approximately 100 people from across the UK and keynote speakers from Europe and the USA .
A number of workshops offered a range of potential programmes including face painting, DDA, Employment Opportunities for those with stammers, current research etc. however, there was a fair amount of overlap making it difficult to keep to appropriate timings.
Current research offered a fascinating insight affecting stammers including ancestral links and other proven scientific facts and I also attended a couple of other workshops on the first day, both were well presented.
Colin's workshop on LMI was well received, and unknowingly he roped me into the delivery. We were able to give a thorough perspective on the education system and LMI as well as offer a Q&A session.
The Gala Dinner offered the opportunity to network with people and there is a definite interest in joint working. |
