Primary School test target missed

 4 Sep 2006

The Government has failed to reach its Key Stage 2 target for 11 year-olds, the Department for Education and Skills reported today.

The Government's target was for 85% of pupils to achieve the level expected for their age in English and maths, but the SATS results show that only 79% achieved the level in English, and only 76% in maths. The Key Stage 2 targets were an essential aspect of the Government's commitment to raising basic skills, and the target had already been postponed from 2004.
