At its recent Council meeting, the Institute of Career Guidance (ICG) formulated its official response to the 'FE White Paper: Raising Skills, Improving Chances'.
ICG welcomes the opportunity to respond to the Government's proposals for the future of Further Education Colleges' contribution to the future skills and learning needs of the economy and of individuals.
The response comments on some general themes which are the extension to the concept of entitlement to 19-25 year olds for a first level 3 qualification; Access to Information, advice and guidance; Quality of Information, advice and guidance; Employers and Skills; Supported Learning and Funding.
Among its observations ICG states: "The Government's policy of improving learning and attainment opportunities and guidance support for young people 16-18 has helped to increase the numbers of young people who participate and attain in learning. Extending this opportunity to 19-25 year olds should address the needs of a growing number of young adults who have not fulfilled their potential during Secondary and Tertiary education. The Institute welcomes this development." This response has been submitted to the Department for Education and Skills (DfES).
