The Institute of Career Guidance received the following letter this week from Gareth Dent, Chair of the Guidance Council.
Dear Colleague
At a meeting of Trustees earlier this month it was decided that it would be beneficial to wind up the Guidance Council and transfer the assets to another organisation with similar aims and objectives. The Trustees consider that the Guidance Council is no longer a going concern so this is necessary. Ratification of this decision will be sought at the AGM on 1 November 2006.
The Guidance Council is solvent. There is likely to be some £20,000 left in reserves once the necessary steps have been taken to finalise business. A meeting of Trustees has been for September. The principal purpose of this meeting will be to agree proposals for the disbursement of these assets. We will present options to the AGM for decision.
I know this news may be a disappointment to many of you, although probably not a surprise. While the Council has struggled to define a role in recent years, it is appropriate to note that at this time it does leave a substantial legacy. Matrix continues, and this is a direct result of the Council developing the original standards for learning and work and ensuring they developed and were kept fit for purpose.
We will notify you of the venue for the AGM nearer the time. I hope to see you then. If you have any questions please contact me.
Regards
