ICG President, Dr Rachel Mulvey was invited to sit on the Quality Standards Steering Group which has been convened by DfES and had its first meeting in Sheffield last Friday.
The Quality Standards were mentioned in the Youth Matters: next steps policy document and are necessary to uphold common standards of service to young people when commissioning services from diverse providers.
The policy expects that these new standards will articulate across from Youth to Adult IAG. Steering group includes: NACP; ACEG; CeGS; Ofsted; QCA; Youth Board; and the DfES itself. The project is run by Mouchel Parkman, a firm of consultants who have previously worked on standards for Gifted and Talented and 43 case studies for Every Child Matters.
The timescales show that the first draft of standards will be produced by the end September 2006, then they will take response and a second draft will be produced in January 2007 before a final version in April 2007.
