A major engagement programme with employers is to be launched by LLUK in January 2006. The planned 18-month process will map out exactly what skills employers in the lifelong learning sector need their workforce to have, and how these skills will be supplied both now and in the future.
The result, due for completion mid-2007, will be a Sector Skills Agreement (SSA) facilitated and led by LLUK. Following widespread employer consultation across the four countries of the UK an action plan will be registered with funders and policy makers across the UK.
Chief executive David Hunter says that the SSA is an excellent opportunity for LLUK to formally engage with employers in a structured fashion to ascertain skills needs across the sector. "Through the SSA process we will be able to really get to grips with our sector and work out ways to effectively address both current and future skills requirements - to the benefit of the national economy. It has the potential to revolutionise the way we operate," he added.
The first of five steps will involve a widescale assessment of the current status of the lifelong learning sector nationally. |
